How to Safely Maintain and Place Seamless Steel Cylinders

There are various types of gas products, which can be roughly divided into two categories: general industrial gases and special gases. The production and sales volume of general industrial gases are large, but the purity requirements are not high. Industrial gas containers are generally seamless steel cylinders. There are many types of steel cylinders, such as oxygen cylinders, nitrogen cylinders, argon cylinders, helium cylinders, hydrogen cylinders, etc., and the application range of steel cylinders is also very wide. It is widely used in industries such as metallurgy, steel, petroleum, chemical engineering, machinery, electronics, glass, ceramic building materials, construction, food processing, healthcare, and medical treatment.

Steel cylinders are commonly used gas equipment in industries, chemical engineering, experiments, and scientific research. Different gases require different gas cylinders and use a large amount of ordinary or special gases. Because they are all high-pressure gas cylinders, there is a certain degree of danger. So how to protect them?

1. Cylinders shall be stored in a well ventilated place. It is strictly prohibited to store them near precision equipment, cables, refueling systems, combustibles, etc. or in confined space. In summer, they shall be protected from sunlight. The gas cylinder must be equipped with two shockproof rings and a cylinder cap.

2. Gas cylinders should be stored upright and placed in cylinder racks, cylinder cages, or other designated areas, and should be secured using specialized fixing facilities such as ropes, chains, or other feasible measures.

3. Do not come into contact with charged objects, and do not contaminate the cylinder valve with grease.

4. It is strictly prohibited to mix gas cylinders with flammable and explosive materials.

5. Before handling gas cylinders, the bottle cap should be tightened. Gas cylinders should be loaded and unloaded lightly, and throwing, rolling, and collision are strictly prohibited. Gas cylinders should be moved using carts, pallets, etc.

6. It is prohibited to use cylinder caps as lifting points or handles.

7. It is strictly prohibited to place gas cylinders near heat sources. The storage environment temperature of gas cylinders should comply with the following regulations: acetylene cylinders should not exceed 40 ℃, argon cylinders should not exceed 50 ℃, and oxygen cylinders should not exceed 60 ℃.

8. The gas in the cylinder must not be exhausted. The residual pressure of the oxygen cylinder shall not be less than 0.2MPa. The residual pressure of the argon cylinder should not be less than 0.5MPa.

9. It is strictly prohibited to mix oxygen and acetylene cylinders. During gas welding and cutting operations, a safety distance of at least 5 meters should be maintained between the oxygen and acetylene cylinders, and the safety distance between the cylinder and the ignition point should not be less than 10 meters.

10. Gas cylinder accessories, such as safety helmets, shock absorbers, pressure gauges, pressure reducing valves, etc., should be complete and qualified. Combustible gas cylinders such as dissolved acetylene cylinders should also be equipped with anti backfire devices that are suitable for the gas type. Different types of anti backfire devices should not be mixed.

11. Dissolved acetylene cylinders should not be placed horizontally during use.

12. The rubber hose connected to the gas cylinder must be securely tied with clamps, and damaged and severely aged rubber hoses must not be used.

13. Before conducting gas welding and cutting operations, the gas cylinder system should be checked for air tightness, and it should not be used when there is a leak in the system.

14. Do not use gas cylinders that have expired or have not been manufactured with inspection steel seals.

15. Do not use dangerous methods such as rope pulling to transport gas cylinders to heights, nor do you use free rolling down stairs or ramps to transport gas cylinders.
